Abstract
The text discusses the response of the US to situations involving defects in motor vehicles, particularly the collective protection that recently resulted in the conviction of General Motors (GM) in the US to pay compensation set at $102.6 million, with $2,700 going to each of the thirty-eight thousand consumers involved in the action. Additionally, it addresses the importance of the meta-individual protection of consumers who have experienced faults or defects in their automobiles, including in Brazil.
